Kelsey REDD (U.S.A.)
Class of 2022
Pre-MBA: Pricing Analyst, LyondellBasell

1. About Kelsey Redd

Hi! My name is Kelsey and I am originally from Chicago, Illinois (U.S.A.). I moved to Texas 8 years ago for school and work. I attended the University of Texas at Austin, where I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management. I have nearly four years of supply chain experience in the energy, plastics and chemicals industries. I am currently a chemicals pricing analyst for LyondellBasell in Houston. I enjoy traveling, running marathons, reading, playing music, and spending time with family and friends.

2. Why an MBA? Why pursue an MBA in Asia rather than North America?

At this point in my career, I am looking to expand my global network and enhance supply chain data-driven analytics in Asia. I believe that an MBA would be an excellent vehicle for me to make these connections and expand my world vision.

As an undergraduate student, I had the unique opportunity to study abroad for a semester, at HKUST! I loved interacting with HKUST Business School’s world-renowned faculty and studying alongside international classmates with richly diverse perspectives. Hong Kong’s global presence and advantageous positioning in Asia proved to be attractive once again when I was considering MBA programs.

3. What’s the most attractive part of the HKUST MBA to you?

I am thrilled about HKUST’s prestigious MBA curriculum, which will help to refine my technical skills, provide networking opportunities, and prepare me for an evolving career in international business leadership. The HKUST MBA is the only international program that I applied to, because I knew this was where I wanted to grow my professional and personal network. Working with the career coaches will help me to identify my strengths and weaknesses and explore career opportunities. I am most looking forward to meeting my classmates and making lifelong friendships with them!
4. In your eyes, what role can a female leader play in modern society?

Female leaders have an exciting opportunity to encourage other women in the workforce to pursue their goals and meet challenges head on. Today’s effective leaders excel at embracing change, recognizing different perspectives, and valuing collaboration. My primary work experience has been in a traditionally male-dominated industry. However, I have been fortunate to be surrounded by female managers at my current and past employers, who have provided valuable mentorship. I look forward to becoming a mentor that helps instill confidence and contributes to the bigger picture of gender equality in the future.

5. Give three words that describe how you feel about joining the HKUST MBA family

Dedicated, grateful, and inspired.
